This
ground floor home is situated in a mansion built by famed Mexican
architect, Guillermo de Alba around 1900, and completely restored in 2006.
From the charming courtyard, one enters a covered terrace and into the charming living room with several
architectural features including the original rubble wall. New Mexican
tile floors lead you thru arches, nooks, and crannies to the dining room
which opens onto the large Hacienda-style kitchen.
Filled with the decor
of yesterday, the old original stove and an “ice” box newly painted
with folk scenes complements a new stove and refrigerator. A new beehive
fireplace lies against an old wall, and is perfect for baking bread or
pizza! This kitchen opens to
a new fountain in a cheerful covered patio filled with pots of colorful
flowers.
Sharing this very open space is the family room, with comfortable
seating and a new adobe/Santa Fe style fireplace. A small bathroom is hidden off the patio. The bedroom has a
mesquite and copper king headboard, and opens to the sunny covered
terrace.
There is a bathroom
featuring twin talavera basins, toilet, and shower, covered with new blue
and white talavera tiles. This home lends itself to entertaining because
of its generous “spaces”, and in addition has an interesting display
of Mexican folkart.
